Final trip to sunnny hill school

On thursday morning we rehearsed our 'strander danger' play for a short period of time before arriving at sunnyhill school. When we arrived we had to wait outside where we were going to perform because the students were having an assembly . When we aloud to enter the hall we took about 2 minutes to set where we need our props to be. On the 4th May we received a visit from Mr. Cliff Hall, who works for the VCCP advertising agency. He spoke to us about the 'behind the scenes' of advertising and what was involved in getting clients and designing campaigns for them.
He began by showing us a slideshow about the company in general and some of the adverts they had produced (O2 Priority adverts, Very, and Compare the Market). Telling us about the competition between agencies, and the pressure to create good adverts.
After this he started to focus in on one of the company's most successful campaigns, which was compare the market. The campaign was focused on the invented character; Alexander Orlov, a Russian meerkat billionaire, who runs the company 'Compare the Meerkat'. This was designed because people could not remember the name 'Compare the Market', so their website was not often found by people looking for price comparison companies. The idea was then pitched to the client along with a few other advertising agencies, so the client could decide which company to use.
The company itself was divided into several parts, which included; planning, who meet with the clients to discuss what kind of advert they want, creatives, who then design the actual advert from a given brief, and producers, who then make or shoot the decided advert.
Mr Hall gave us a very interesting presentation and confirmed my decision of going into advertising as a career, I have now applied for and gotten a placement for work experience at VCCP.

The Pitches

टुडे everyone had to present their pitches which we have been working on in our Art and Media lessons। I had missed some privious lessons therefore I had to work with Faduma and find out about the work I missed।Our pitch contained creative ideas of ways to raise awerness of the issue,we came up with Storybooks, bookmarks, badges and posters। These were all simple ideas which u suck u paloue will give the children better understanding of the issue। We came up with the slogan "Stranger Danger" because it is वैरी catchy.

Review

We went out to a trip to watch series of short movies for the human rights festivel began at 10AM. we watched ten short films about issues that affect kids and teenagers. at the opening movie was called Liela which was about a girl is traded by her parents and is sent to work. My favourite short film was about a boy documenting his life, coping with the death of his parents and searching for his brother. I disliked alot of the movies but because of the way it was presented but the one disliked the most was the film about stop and search because the man who made it said it was aimed at young black kids who have been discriminated by police through stop and search but the film showed two white boys that have been discriminated and only one black person. From watching that I'd say it was aimed at young boys in general , I felt it could have been made alot better that was.

In drama today we were learning about theatre in education which can educate kids about sex-teen pregnancy, drinking, smoking, use of drugs and bullying. We have to make play about bullying to perform to primary school children aged 7-8. Our of the play is to incorauge them to tell someone if they are being bullied. We performed it out to each other. My group has alot to improve because we've made it seem more for secondary school kids not primary and some the scenes were abit graphic for kids. Like the scene the were the friend of the bully slaps the victim. Before we actually performed the play we brain stormed what is in involved with bullying. Which were things like name calling and physical bullying.

Homework

During a media lesson I wrote an email to Miss Gooch, asking when the trailer and posters need to be completed by and what is required to go on them. I have also made evaluation sheets for people to comment on after viewing the original trailer it asked how good the font, length, music and the style was, the evaluation sheets can be found in my media folder. I also was filmed for the trailer, recommending to the audience to watch dunravens west side story, the clip of can be found in a final cut express folder save on the apple laptops. After hearing the possibility of adding endorsements I tried to encourage the group to try it we did one with a teacher saying good it’s going to be good production and the other a student which was me, the group decided not to add any endorsements because they thought It would make the trailer look silly.

My group and I created a trailer using clips of west story rehearsals( that we filmed after school in the drama hall) and editing the clips; we split up doing separate things for it such as titles, clip editing and sound. Lola created all the titles for certain bits in the trailer, Fatmata and I helped out by experimenting with the clips( such ass using effects like fade out or fade in from black etc) and Ellie was working out which song to use (Lola also helped) we ended up using Tonight as we felt it made the trailer look more dramatic .I mainly helped out by finding out deadlines and small jobs like making evaluation sheets. My role for the actual production were to make sure people producing the trailer and posters new their deadline, and on the day of the production I had to collect tickets, hand leaflets on the chairs and make sure no students snuck in. I decided to come an hour early to make sure I arrive on time and do every job necessary under 10 minutes. I and others had take picture of scenes during the west side story performance.

Over the past several weeks I blogged (which had to be updated regularly) my role in everything I had done in my media lessons the name of my blog is supreme master Jordan of the universe, the evidence for this would be my blog on the website blogger. The blog is laid out chronological order with pictures and designs for a certain lessons done in media like the picture below is a blogger post for a lesson where learned about where you can obtain information to with media; which can be movies, theatre, galleries etc. We also used art books to monitor our progress in art; we had to use the books creatively by adding illustrations and fancy designs. We have pictures in the books of us painting the west side story sets, we painted a building wall for the backdrop jukebox and a pinball machine.

My strengths were blogging what I done in a media lesson and adding pictures to illustrate a certain skill I learned such as using final cut express to edit video clips for west side story trailer, I also felt that blogging is my strength because it’s like a diary informing readers of my media lessons, my weakness is working in a group as I find it difficult to communicate and get my point across to the group, which why often I do separate but crucial work. I also have difficulty using final cut express because I’m very new to using the application and it’s on the apple laptops that I also find hard to use due to its new applications and odd mouse pad.

All day,today me and the rest of the production team helped out in rehersals and watched them perform it. During rehearsals there was problems with the microphones and sound. The ochestra were very good at playing the classic WSS songs.At the first night of the production my job was to be the dude who collects tickets, sort of like a bouncer. I also helped by putting the leaflets on peoples chairs.

On the second night of the perfomence me and others, took pictures of the actors performence and even pictures back stage.

In media we learned and discussed how we hear things to do with creative and media such as art exhibitions, film premiers,newspapers etc. People said they hear it from magazines, T.v,word of mouth and advertisements.Then miss gave us images of cm websites;Empire,timeout etc. Me and Akilesh said the empire was a that websites tells you about new movies coming out and detail about the actors, date of release,plot and which cinemas it can be seen in. Time out was more about theatres and gives you the opportunities to buy tickets.After that we got A5 paper to design a website.

Today we completed the trailer during our drama lesson we had to take out the actors voices and add the sound tract to it. And we showed our trailer to other people such as some six form students and Mr Boyle. I had to tally up the results of the people who anwsered my evaluation sheet and place it as a graph on the presention about the work we done.

Fatmata and I helped the poster team replace the posters they put up with the wrong dates and add a few more in upper school and lower school.

Lola and I created a buzz(brainstorm of ways to get people exicited about the play and to get people to come) We have a some ideas in how to do so such as putting mini posters in the staff's pigeon holes, tell people,display poster and trailer on school website and email parents and also show the trailers in assembly and tutors give out leaflets.

We as a group worked on the titles an added them to the trailer, putting them in order and editing the clips. Lola worked more on the titles during period 5and 6,Fatmata and Ellie edited the trailer while I worked on doing the evaluation sheets to hand to people to see what can be improved. The questions were:

What did you like about the trailer?

What could have been improved?

There was also a table to rate the font, length, music etc. After writing the questions up on the computors I was able to print alot of copies and print it up and slice into sections to give to people round the school who have seen the trailer.

I watched the trailer and came up with some questions that we wanted to ask the audience so we would know to improve it and see what is good with the work. The question were things like

• Can hear the actors?
• Do you think we need to change the voice over?
• Do you think the font is ok?
• Do you think the music goes well with the trailer?

After I came up with some questions I came back to my group to see if they agreed the questions ad whether we need to add more questions. We kept my original questions and decided not to add any more, so then I typed up the questions and saved so we can show the questions on the white board to read out in when we do the presentation.

After finding out what our audience thinks we will improve our trailer, we will add changes to the trailer and make it much more interesting.The audience feed back could increase the number of people coming to the WSS production and more people will be intrested through the trailer.

Today Ieditetd a scene for the trailer which we called the fight which was basicly a fighting scene, I had to drag it inti the video time line and cut out bits which were not nessersary. After doing that I was asked to add some text in the begining of the trailer which was 'What happens when a fantastic musical comes to dunraven' We chose to put it into red writting and make the size 31. The trailer could be improved by making the text smaller to fit in the screen and fading effect to fade into the movie clips.

Me and Fatmata streamed the recordings from wss rehersals on the new apple laptops which miss taylor kindly got for us.We captured the following clips for the trailer, The knife fight, Ebon singing close up of the Sharks and jets and some dance scenes. We were gonna use the clips in trailer and see if we can do anymore filming.

For 2 weeks me and the trailer group brain stormed on how long the trailer clips should be and which scenes will we be using.Generaly the clips wer 3 seconds long we decided on the amrica dance scene and a close up of the people playing tony and maria .We were hopnig to get other scenes in but they may not be rehersed when we go to film.

1. Poster needs to go up about 4 weeks before the show. I would like to see a copy to ok it before it goes to production please.
2. Trailer - again 4 weeks so we have good time to market the show.
3. Yes I will need to give feedback on the poster.
4. Wednesday 10th Feb and Thursday 11th Feb at 7pm

BFI Festifal

At the Bfi two guys were explaining the process of making a short movie. It really depends on the budget if the budget they have to think economically like how are they can find a scene on trees and grass in the local area and keeping an eye on the weather is vital if your short film is based in sunny weather it can be disaster therefore they learn to work with it; they film the rain drops on window and try to make it look as if it is coming off garden sprinklers.They also showed us some short films I enjoyed the film called after tomorrow it was about a old man who See's himself young and he lives in this house with an old women and a young lady. He tries to leave the house to say sorry to his wife for something but the old lady is his wife and at the end she tells him but he doesn't believe her and the movie ends.We got to interview a women called Ginger on how to publicise trailers and how to be creative and we interviewed a man named Tim about how to publicise through posters.

We decided that we were going to publicize through posters and trailers. We also thought about making the west side story into graffiti. We created a colour scheme for our posters. Red to symbolise passion, death and anger. Blue because it is our school colour and yelow to represent hope.
